The CNU Faculty is composed of distinguished professors who are currently working in industry and/or teaching in the field of Engineering or who have been awarded emeritus status at their universities.
The faculty represents diverse backgrounds with members having taught and earned their advanced degrees from nationally recognized traditional universities.
A full complement of faculty are committed to provide CNU students with continuous assistance and feedback. An integral part of this process is the interaction between students and faculty that has been built into CNU programs. Every course has been planned so that the student and professor have a variety of interactions during the trimester to promote the student's awareness of his/her progress in the course.

Professor Armstrong has an M.B.A. and a Master's Degree in Information Systems Management, Quality Management emphasis and is working on his Doctorate. He has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management, Quality Improvement, a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Quality SPC Certificate.
Professor Armstrong is a QS-9000 Internal Auditor, a QS-9000/ISO9000 IATCA Lead Auditor for Quality Systems Management, and a certified Registrar, Accreditation Board (RAB) Quality Management Systems Auditor. He has written articles for Quality Digest Magazine, created work instructions and procedures for an engineering department, and has written a Quality Assurance Manual and a QS-9000/ ISO9000 Quality Manual.

Dr. Bagheri is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the California Maritime Academy. He has conducted research in the Department of Agricultural Engineering, UC Davis and served as a consultant on numerous projects including those for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, NASA, and the Environmental Science Association.

Tom Brennen, M.S.

Professor Brennens experience for the last fifteen years has been in the engineering and information technology fields. His position at the University of Wisconsin in Madison keeps him busy, primarily with networking and systems development efforts that involve local, state and wider area facilities. Professor Brown is principal and owner of Prophecy Consulting Group. Her primary duties focus on the development of engineering and management solutions for small to large organizations. She holds a bachelors degree in chemical engineering and a masters degree in engineering from Howard University, and an MBA from Arizona State University with an emphasis in finance and strategy.
Professor Brown is a senior life member and the FY04 President-Elect for the Society of Women Engineers. She is also a Fellow of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering. Other professional memberships include Air & Waste Management Association, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Howard University Alumni Association, Phoenix Region Future City Competition, and Soroptimist International of the Americas.

Steven P. Chanin, M.S.E., M.S.

Professor Chanin holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State, and an M.S. degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Professor Chanin is currently the Director of Continuous Improvement at Goodrich Corporation. He is a former U.S. Navy Main Propulsion Officer and Vietnam veteran who later worked for General Electric as an engineer charged with helping to design the Trident Submarine nuclear reactor. He later joined Hamilton Standard as a member of the engineering team that designed and developed the NASA Space Suit and the Space Shuttle. He eventually moved into manufacturing where he was a Business Unit Manager at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Director of Manufacturing at ABB Corporation Nuclear Power Division, and then Director of Operations and Process Improvement at AeroThrust Corporation.

Sam Chaudhuri, Ph.D.

Matthew “Marty” Chrenka, M.S.

Professor Chrenka has been involved in the information technology industry as a student, teacher, and professional for over 13 years. He earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis and has worked for IBM as a programmer and UNIX administrator for over 8 years.
Specializing in high availability systems, Professor Chrenka works primarily in support of large-scale mission-critical servers. Professor Chrenka has also been involved in many development projects both professionally and academically, including the design and development of web-based tools; database design and development; and server automation tools.

Professor Clauson holds Master’s Degrees in both Business and Engineering as well as a doctorate in IT Management. His career and consulting assignments have spanned Fortune 100 manufacturing companies, service organizations, healthcare facilities, 2-year colleges, 4-year universities, as well as numerous small business initiatives. He has consulted with organizations and has been a frequent speaker at conferences throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, England, Wales, Scotland and Turkey. Professor Clauson is a former editor and columnist for Quality Progress magazine.

Geza Csanky, Ph.D.

Dr. Csanky obtained a MSEE and Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern California. His professional experience includes working for Motorola Semiconductors, Dickson Electronics, Microsemiconductor, International Rectifier, Manet Semiconductors, Hughes Aircraft, and is currently working at the Aerospace Corporation. He has taught at the University of Southern California, California State University, Long Beach, and West Coast University. He has numerous publications and has been granted six patents.

Kurt H. Diesch, Ph.D.

Dr. Diesch received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University. His primary interest has been in software development and he has been working in that area since the 1980s. Dr. Diesch’s latest work is in the area of ASP.NET web development and data analysis using MS SQL and MS Analysis Services.
Dr. Diesch spent several years as a professor at Iowa State University and he has taught over 75 courses at online schools. His experience in online education has made him a firm believer in this medium.

Professor Durollari holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology through Southern Illinois University and a master of science degree in telecommunications management through Golden Gate University.
Professor Durollari has over 20 years of experience in telecommunications engineering & installation of networks spanning the globe-emphasizing system engineering, training & education, project management, quality assurance, personnel management, training development, total quality management, network management, marketing, and financial management skills.
Professor Durollari is an active member of Building Industry Consulting Standards International (BICSI) and a premier partner of CISCO Systems -- CISCO Certified Design Associate (CCDA) -- CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and runs, his own company, Duro Telecom Inc., with several partners.

Richard Eckhart, Ph.D.

Dr. Eckhart is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science with over twenty years teaching experience and background in computer applications, mathematics modeling, and steady-state and dynamic simulation. Dr. Forbes was Program Manager for TRW Transportation Electronics Division and has served as President of local sections of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). She has received the outstanding Engineer Merit Award by the Orange County Engineering Council and has served as lecturer and panelist for colleges of engineering across the nation. Dr. Forbes is a veteran (U.S. Navy), a private pilot and aircraft owner.

Captain Jeffrey Freedman, M.S.

ENGINEERING
Captain Freedman graduated from the United States Air force Academy in 1998 with academic honors and a degree in Aeronautical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. He was also recognized as being the top student in his sub-field of Thermodynamics and Propulsion, and was elected to Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Gamma Tau engineering honor societies. He then went on to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was awarded a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics while conducting research on compressors in the Gas Turbine Laboratory.
As an officer in the United States Air Force, he attended pilot training in 2000. He has flown numerous aircraft, to include the T-37, T-1, C-21, and C-130 airframes. He is currently still on active duty flying the C-130. Captain Freedman has held a private pilot's license since 1993 and is an enthusiast of homebuilt and experimental aircraft.

Alan S. Gleit, Ph.D.

Dr. Gleit received his Ph. D. from Stanford and has been a professor of Mathematics for over ten years. Seeking "real world experience", he became first a consultant in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and then applied statistician in industry. Dr. Gleit then started his career in the financial services industry. After jobs with Citicorp and several other large banks, he was a Senior Vice President and Balance Sheet Manager for a $30 billion regional bank. He is the author of over fifty research papers and was an associate editor of Operations Research.

Michael Walter Husarek, M.S.

Michael Walter Husarek is a retired Navy Chief Hospital Corps technician who served twenty two years on active duty, fifteen as a Preventive Medicine Technician (PMT), the last four spent as an instructor at the Navy’s only Preventive Medicine Technician School.
While in the Fleet Reserve, Professor Husarek became a double degree graduate from National University with a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science and a Master of Science in Environmental Management.

Aram G. Khachatourians, M.S.

Professor Khachatourians is a Mechanical Engineer with over 18 years of industry experience. His areas of expertise include Design, Analysis, Optimization of Systems and CAD/CAM. He has worked at such major aerospace companies as: Hughes Aircraft Co., TRW, Boeing and is currently a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne. His latest assignments have been in the development of the RS-68 engine used on the Light, Medium, and Heavy Delta IV launch vehicles. Professor Khachatourians is also a lecturer at California State University, Northridge. For the past nine years he has taught courses in Numerical Analysis, Thermo-fluids, Pro/E, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.
Lawrence Kulinsky, Ph.D.

Dr. Kulinsky as a senior design engineer participated in the development of novel FETs and IGBTs for International Rectifier, a leading power semiconductor manufacturer. Professor Kulinsky conducts research at University of California, Irvine in the areas of Drug Delivery MEMs and Microfluidics. He authored numerous scientific publications. He is a member of ASME.

Professor Lawrence holds an Master’s degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s in Liberal Arts from Wesleyan University. She also holds a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering.
Professor Lawrence is employed with a major aircraft engine manufacturer, where she functions as a Metallurgical Supplier Quality Engineer. Professor Lawrence has held positions in experimental, project and finance engineering.
Joseph Ledbetter, Ph.D.

Dr. Ledbetter is a Chemistry Department Head, a Fulbright Scholar Finalist and a reviewer for the Fulbright Exchange Program. He has designed curriculum and published articles in The Journal of Physical Chemistry and The Canadian Journal of Chemistry.

Walter Makovoz, Ph.D.

Dr. Makovoz is a senior scientist for a defense contractor in El Segundo, California, where he performs applied research in the areas of animation, time series prediction, computer graphics, robotics and image processing. His responsibilities include team management of defense/commercial computer and communications projects; development of business related software applications; enterprise-wide information systems planning and development; Client/Server database system design, and strategic information technology consulting. In addition, Dr. Makovoz participates in database designs for business and scientific applications. He currently is an adjunct instructor at UCLA and at several campuses of California State University.

Ronald D. McFarland, Ph.D.

Dr. Ronald D. McFarland received his Ph.D. in Computing Technology in Education at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He currently teaches distance education in the areas of computer science including; C and C++ programming, database management systems, information design, data design and information retrieval, and software engineering. Dr. McFarland's professional experience includes working as an Information Systems Consultant and Applications Systems Analyst in which he participated in the analysis and design of enhancements of vendor software packages as well as managing technical staffs.

A. G. (Tony) Mazza, Ph.D.

Dr. Mazza obtained his doctorate in the department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto while modeling the thermal cracking kinetics of Athabasca Bitumen. Since completing his degree, he has worked in applying chemical engineering technology in diverse areas such as waste minimization and chemical recovery in metal finishing operations, nuclear fuel preparation and, most recently, in the development of components that are used in the design and construction of electrochemical stacks such as fuel cells and electrolysers.
In the middle of his industrial career, Dr. Mazza earned a Bachelor of Education degree at the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto. Subsequently, he was a full-time sessional faculty member at Ryerson Polytechnic University, and subsequently for a number of years a part-time adjunct professor in the School of Chemical Engineering. One of Dr. Mazza’s professional aims has been to help prepare students for their careers in engineering and science through a sound technical background. A tenet of his teaching philosophy is that education should be relevant to students’ personal development as well as their future career activities.

George D. Nichol, P.E., D.E.E., Ph.D.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
Dr. Nichol served many years as a reserve officer in the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps (Seabees). He went on to become a registered civil engineer and earn his Master’s degree at the University of California, Davis and his PhD at the University of Nevada, Reno, in Environmental Engineering. Dr. Nichol is also a Diplomate in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, in the specialty area of water treatment and wastewater treatment.
Dr. Nichol has worked for 26 years as a civilian environmental engineer in the Sacramento District of the Army Corps of Engineers. He currently works at the State Water Resources Control Board in Sacramento. There, his projects have included working on the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program that regulates wastewater treatment plant discharges, the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program that requires a reduction in watershed wastes until the water quality criteria in receiving waters are achieved, and the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP) to achieve comparability and quality assurance goals of monitoring data throughout California.
Victor Nunez, M.S., Ph. D

Dr. Nunez has over 23 years experience in Engineering and Quality Management. He is a Professional Engineer (P.E.), certified in Quality Management. Currently Dr. Nunez is a Quality/Reliability manager for a major medical device company in Largo, Florida and teaches Business Statistics in the MBA program of a local university in the Tampa Bay area.

Mary Jane Monaghan, M.Ed

Professor Monaghan received her B.S. and Master's degrees from the University of Florida at Gainesville. Her degrees are in mathematics/applied math/statistics. She is completing her Ph.D. online at Colorado State University. Professor Monaghan has lived and worked in Texas for the past sixteen years as an engineer in the defense industry and currently works with pre-production advanced aircraft programs as a Senior Staff Systems Engineer.

Dr. Prabhakar has had a distinguished international career as a professor, engineer, and consultant to organizations such as Litton and NASA. He won the California State University Faculty Achievement Award for the development and administration of the M.S. External Degree Program at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California. Dr. Prabhakar has been honored as a Fellow for the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering and was named the University's Distinguished Professor at California State University.

Dr. Qiu received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He has worked as a lecturer and research fellow in universities, teaching electrical, electronic and computer courses. Dr. Qiu has also conducted CAD/CAM research on electrical power apparatuses and has co-designed two commercial CAD/CAM software packages.
Dr. Qiu has extensive industrial experience. He worked as an Electrical Power Engineer and Electrical Design Engineer in research and manufacturing environments. He is curently working as a Network Engineer. Dr. Qiu is also a a registered professional engineer (P.E.).

He is an ASQ Certified Quality Manager (CQM), ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) from GE Capital, and an NAIT Certified Senior Industrial Technologist (CSIT).

Professor Samuels has conducted research and attended the National Information Assurance Program (NIAP) 2002 seminar, including attendance at specialized classes, to stay abreast of the latest security developments in industry as well as the public sector.

Professor Samuels is nationally recognized by the IEEE as an established authority and industry liaison in Residential Broadband and Technologies and Communications.
