Getting Started in Blackboard

Logging into Blackboard
  1. Click on the Blackboard Learning System link
    CNU Home Page
  2. Click on the Login Button

  3. Enter your user name and password
    Note: Contact CNU if you need your login information (800-782-2422) CNU Help.
  4. lick on the Login button
  5. Click on the title of the course you wish to access
Course Structure
There are three elements in a course layout:
  • CNU Banner and Tabs

    Please note the following elements
    • The buttons:
      Home sends you to the CNU home page
      Help sends you to the CNU Blackboard Help Page
      Logout ends your Blackboard session
    • Tabs:
      My CNU displays Tools, My Announcements, My Courses, etc.
      Courses displays a list of the courses you are enrolled in
  • Course Menu (available when in a course)
    Provides buttons to navigate in a course (details provided in other pages)
  • Course Content(available when in a course)
    displays the content that is associated with the navigation buttons (details provided in other pages)

Navigation
  • Use the buttons from the Course Menu to navigate amoung the major course elements
  • Folders are in some of the course elements. To open a folder click on it

Course Map

An alternative method of navigation in a course is to use the course map.

  • Use the Course Map by opening the Course Map
  • You can navigate the course by clicking on an element
    To open a more specific item, click on the folder where the item is (Closed folders are marked by a + plus sign. Open folders are marked by a - minus sign)
  • Then click on your item
    • Course Map
Control Panel (Instructors)

All course administration is done through the Control Panel. This area is only available to users with one of the following defined course roles:

  • Instructor
  • Teaching Assistant
  • Grader
  • System Administrator

To access the Control Panel:

Click on the Control Panel link, located under the Course Menu

There are six areas on the Control Panel

  • Content Area*
  • Course Tools*
  • Course Options*
  • User Management
    • View information about your students
    • Create, delete, add members or delete students from groups
  • Assessment
    • Only use the Gradebook! The other tools are best modified by CNU
  • Help

It is highly recommendated that only CNU makes changes in this area!
